Inaugural Humberside to Newquay flight is a resounding success

April 04, 2022

This new service will operate twice weekly each way, on a Monday and a Friday, helping increase regional connectivity from the Humber & Yorkshire region to the hub airport of Cornwall.

Friday’s first departure saw a mix of passengers on board, travelling in from all corners of the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire regions. Some of the passengers on board included; families that had been visiting loved ones in Lincolnshire and were returning home to Cornwall, business users that had been attending meetings locally and were returning back home, a gentleman going down to Newquay to collect a new car, a couple taking a well-earned break on the sandy shores of Cornwall, a member of our naval services going to meet up with their designated ship and a YouTube Content creator not wanting to miss the first flight.

Passengers were treated to some Cornish delicacies at Humberside Airport with them laying on a selection of pasties, scones with clotted cream and jam and Cornish cider. The debate of jam or cream first was saved for another day.

Eastern Airways Managing Director, Adam Wheatley, was present to wish passengers a safe journey alongside Humberside Airport Managing Director, Deborah Zost.

Passengers were boarded very efficiently by the ground team at Humberside and welcomed on board to the Jetstream 41 by Lily, Eastern Airways Cabin Crew representative for this first flight down to Newquay.

Captain Ian and First Officer Craig had the plane ready to depart on time and those on board were treated to a commemorative Water Salute from the Fire Services based at Humberside Airport.

Once in the air, passengers were in receipt of the complimentary in flight service. 1 hour and 5 minutes after take-off, the wheels were touching down earlier than expected in a very sunny Newquay.

Not to let those feel left out that were due to be on board of the return flight, Cornwall Airport Newquay laid on complimentary gift bags for those on the return leg of the inaugural flight. Treated to some local delicacies including traditional Cornish fudge and spiced biscuits, passengers boarding at Newquay experienced the same seamless yet professional service for the return leg of this flight.

With the aroma of Cornish Premier Pasties filling the cabin, the flight departed Newquay on time and enjoyed a sun-glimpsed journey over South Wales back in to the heart of Lincolnshire arriving at Humberside Airport just after 2pm.

The flight schedule for the Humberside to Newquay route has been designed to provide maximum opportunity for long weekend stays and weekly commuting avoiding 8 – 10 hour drives or train journeys. Flights on this route will depart Mondays and Fridays throughout the spring and summer seasons.

All services will be operated on low emission regional turbo prop aircraft ensuring that the route is delivered as a low carbon, environmentally sustainable option. This supports Eastern Airways’ strategy towards sustainability whilst offering a fast, convenient and hassle-free way of travelling for our domestic passengers.
