When you think of the world famous fjords of Norway, Bergen is the actual gateway to these spectacular tourist attractions, which are now part of UNESCO’s world heritage listing.

Norway’s second largest city, Bergen, is located between the world’s longest fjord – Sognefjord and arguably the most beautiful, Hardangerfjord in some of the most stunning scenery offered in Europe.

Bergen is full of history and tradition and it’s very first buildings were built in the lively most important part of the city at - Hanseatic wharf, Bryggen. A number of museums in the area take you back in time to show what life was like.

Spectacular views of the city can be seen if you take a short ride on the Floibanen Funicular to the top of Floien Mountain 320 metres above sea level.

Walking back down the hillside into the Bergen Fish Market brings you back into the hustle and bustle of the city.

There are several impressive art museums for those seeking contemporary art and culture, while the newest visitor attraction is the Bergen science centre.

For night owls, Bergen has its fair share of nightlife and restaurants. As you’d expect culinary specialities include smoked and cured salmon, fish soup and fresh fish.
