March 2010
Eastern Airways is introducing changes to departure times for its morning flight from Aberdeen to Bergen, along with a mid-afternoon departure from Bergen, in response to demand from customers.
From Monday 29 March 2010, the weekday service will revert back to an 8.40am departure, flying non-stop and arriving in Norway’s second largest city at 11.10am local time. Services will depart Bergen at 2.40pm, landing in Aberdeen at 3.10pm local time.
Graeme Ross, Eastern Airways’ Scotland director, said: “We’re now in a position to offer the 8.40am morning departure from Aberdeen and a new afternoon timing from Bergen, which are both non-stop services.
“These adjustments will not only offer greater convenience and flexibility for those travelling directly, but will also provide additional onward connectivity in both directions through Aberdeen.
“Our comprehensive network of domestic flights to and from Aberdeen, along with our Norwegian services, firmly positions Aberdeen as the leading connection hub for the oil and gas industry.”
Aberdeen Airport’s managing director, Kevin Brown said: "This shows a real understanding of the needs of Eastern Airways passengers and I am sure they will appreciate the changes. The Aberdeen to Bergen route is a vital one for the North-east and many people will feel the benefits of this."
Passengers flying with Eastern Airways benefit from its “no compromise” service, with no charge for baggage, choice of seat or onboard drinks and snacks. Check-in is fast and all passengers have access to a dedicated fast track security channel and use of the Eastern Airways’ business lounge at Aberdeen Airport.
As well as the weekday flights, there is also a Sunday service, departing Aberdeen at 3pm and arriving in Norway at 6.10pm local time. From Bergen, services depart at 6.40pm and arrive in Aberdeen at 7.50pm local time.
The Bergen service from Aberdeen was launched by Eastern Airways in October last year and followed the introduction of the twice daily Stavanger weekday flights from Aberdeen in 2007.
There are convenient Bergen connections to and from many of Eastern Airways’ other UK destinations via Aberdeen, including Norwich, East Midlands, Humberside, Durham Tees Valley and Wick.
Bergen Airport Flesland is the main heliport for the Norwegian North Sea oil and gas industry, and as home to the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and the Royal Norwegian Navy, the city also plays a pivotal role in the maritime industry.
The airport is situated 12 miles south of Bergen and is less than half an hour from the city centre. Bergen is recognised as the gateway to Norway’s world famous fjords and has become one of Europe's largest ports of call for cruise ships.
Eastern Airways also flies from Aberdeen to Bristol, Durham Tees Valley, Newcastle, Southampton, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, East Midlands, Humberside, Norwich, Stornoway and Wick.
