Durham Tees ValleyDurham Tees Valley Airport predominantly serves the Tees Valley region which is located in Cleveland, a relatively small county measuring about 200 square miles. The unique Transporter Bridge dominates the skyline and remains a focal point over the River Tees. Middlesbrough lies at the heart of the county with other major towns being Darlington situated only six miles from the airport, Stockton on Tees, Billingham, Hartlepool and Redcar. Despite its industrial base, the area is close to the seaside resort of Saltburn.

Visitor Attractions:

Tees Barrage – Artificial white water course.

Hartlepool’s Historic Quay and Museum – A recreation of an 18th century seaport.

Saltburn Smugglers Heritage Centre – Recreates the story of smuggling in the 18th century Ship Inn.

Captain Cook Birthplace Museum – Displays depicting Cook’s life.

Natures World at the Botanic Centre – Award winning gardens and wildlife area.

Stewart Park – Landscaped Park and lakes containing wildlife and parks.

The area provides an excellent base to visit Durham with its magnificent Norman Cathedral situated by the River Wear and the nearby pretty town of Barnard Castle. It also acts as a gateway to Northumbria and Yorkshire and Humberside.
