Located in the Isle of Lewis, Stornoway is the capital of the Western Isles. The town offers all the amenities and industry of a small mainland town along with a lively and vibrant social scene. A variety of public houses, restaurants and clubs are available along with organised events. Sporting facilities within the town include tennis courts, swimming pool and a golf course.
The busy harbour in Stornoway has freight, ferry and leisure traffic and is home to a fishing fleet. Cruises around the area by boat are available during the summer months where seals may be spotted around the harbour. It can also be possible to catch sight of dolphins, whales and sharks when venturing out onto the water. Visitor Attractions:
Stornoway Museum - Includes collections of objects, photographs, prints, paintings and archives illustrating the archaeology, social, domestic and economic history of the Western Isles.
An Lanntair - An arts centre based on the waterfront of Stornoway Harbour near to the Ferry Terminal. Facilities include exhibitions, live events, cinema, workshops, shops, conferences, restaurant, café bar and special functions.
The Woodland Centre - Located in the grounds of Lews Castle, a few minutes walk from the centre of Stornoway. Enjoy a walk around the grounds and woodland, followed by light meals and refreshments. Upstairs, in the building, is a display area showing some of the history of Stornoway and Lews Castle.
