Angers is the capital of the Anjou region and gateway to the Loire valley in France. The city is distinguished as much for the richness of its cultural heritage as for its preserved natural environment.
Charming chateaux , museums and festivals, gourmet food, fine wines, parks and gardens are some of the major attractions on offer in Angers and Anjou. Angers not only appeals to visitors as it is steeped in history, but also to shopping fans with its vibrant pedestrian streets and wide variety of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
For entertainment, head straight for the place du Raillement where the café terraces are located in the shade of the Italian style theatre. There is a magnificent vantage point with spectacular views over the Maine river to the Chateau d’Angers, which was the most heavily fortified and imposing castle in the Loire valley.

The Loire Valley – Angers is located in the heart of the Loire valley, which is the largest UNESCO World Heritage site in France consisting of 280km between Sully-sur-Loire in central Loire valley and Chalonnes-sur-Loire in western Loire valley.
Fine wines – The vineyards of Anjou/Saumur are part of France’s third largest wine growing region. There are 29 different wine labels offering great diversity.
Chateaux - The Anjou region has over 60 chateaux, manor houses and country estates that are open to the public. The chateau at Brissac is notable for its height; the chateau at Serrant for its stunning architecture; the favourite residence of King Rene was the chateau at Bauge.
Cointreau - The famous liqueur is manufactured in Saint-Barthelemy and has its own museum.
Modern Tapestry Museum – Angers is an important centre of contemporary tapestry with the Jean Lurcat and modern tapestry museum.
Festivals - The prestigious Festival d’Anjou puts theatre in the spotlight with modern and classical pieces in June. The Angers L’Ete welcomes talented artists form the world-wide music scene in the magnificent Toussaint Cloister from mid July to the end of August. Les Accroche-Coeurs festival takes place in September and offers an unusual spectacle of street art.
Le Mans - The most prestigious 24 hour endurance motor sport race in the world is located close by.
