Eastern's on track pilots receive award
Jun 2007

Eastern Airways has received a prestigious award and certificate from Birmingham International Airport in recognition of its pilots’ efforts to stay within the preferred noise routes during take off.

With over 200 flights a month during 2006 from Birmingham, 98.2% of Eastern’s departures were kept within the defined departure corridors, exceeding the airport’s target of 95%.

The airline was also rewarded for participating in the airport’s Operation Pathfinder meetings and providing invaluable feedback.

The Operation Pathfinder initiative was launched by the airport in March 2006 by local MP for Meriden, Caroline Spelman to encourage more dialogue with airlines, create new ways of improving track keeping and provide ways of encouraging airline pilots to avoid flying over densely populated residential areas below 3,000 feet.

The airport’s track keeping system, ANOMS8, monitors the performance of all airlines, including noise and flight path details of aircraft departing from Birmingham.

Jacky Mills, Eastern Airways’ flight safety manager, said: “This is a superb achievement and is a credit to the skills and professionalism of all our pilots who operate to and from Birmingham.”

John Morris, head of corporate and community affairs for Birmingham Airport, added: “We have been monitoring aircraft flight paths and noise for many years but we also believed that engagement with our airline partners would help to improve performance even more.”
