Eastern Airways wins Airline of the Year Silver Award, again! |
October 2004
Eastern Airways has mirrored the achievements of the UK’s
Manchester-based boxer Amir Khan and Southampton-based diver Peter
Waterfield
, scooping a silver medal in this year’s regional airline awards.
Fittingly, in the year of the 2004 Olympics – Aegean Airlines of Greece
took Gold. Aer Arran of Ireland was the Bronze medallist.
The European Regions Airline Association awarded silver to Eastern
Airways for the second consecutive year. Latvian online
publication ‘Baltic Stand-By,’ one of ten European media judging the
entries declared the airline to be “entrepreneurial,” “showing a clear
strategy and greatly contributing to the development of the regions
they operate.”
Together with the home cities of the silver award winners at this
year’s Olympic Games, Eastern serves 15 other cities in the UK and the
British Isles, carrying 10,000 passengers a week. The judges took into
consideration commercial and marketing strategy, finance, environmental
strategy, operational efficiency and performance, customer service
policies and the industry representation it has given ERA in
determining this year’s winners.
"We are very pleased to take Silver for the second year in row, but
like every athlete we will aim for Gold next year!,” said Eastern
Chairman Bryan Huxford. Collecting the award with CEO Richard
Lake, he dedicated it to the professionalism of all the 373 people at
Eastern who work hard to deliver its passengers a personal, punctual,
efficient and niche service throughout the UK, day in, day out. Eastern
was praised for its excellent customer service strategy and
forward-thinking approach. “This airline has a great attitude in a
niche business,” one judge said.
